SEAFORD FNC MEN’S UPDATE 2019 & BEYOND

18 Sep 2018 by Dale O'Neil

The pieces are all starting to fall in to place in 2019 with some key appointments being made by new Senior Coach Zac Vansittart and the Mens Football Department. The Senior assistant coaches have been appointed with Joey Hallal taking the role of running the bench on match days as the main assistant coach with Curtis Barker (Midfield) and Kane Taylor (Backs) taking on playing assistant coaching roles. All 3 men have had long and distinguished playing careers, with Joey also having coached the 19s last year, they have a wealth of football knowledge and will be of great assistance to Zac. Club legend Steve ‘Bizzo’ Harvey has been appointed as the Runner.

There will be a change at Reserves level as well, with 2013 Reserves Coach Andy Clarke has been reappointed after Mark ‘Billy’ Dessent resigning due to work commitments.
Firstly, the club would love to thank Billy for his efforts the last 2 years, having taken the side to a GF in 2017 and a 15-3 record in 2018 before a disappointing finals exit, the sides performance under his guidance has been exceptional. However the side is in great hands with Andy having impressed in his one year at the club, narrowly missing the Premiership by 1 point, and we anticipate big things yet again from the Reserves in Season 2019. Andy spent the majority of his playing days at Pines, with a shot stint at Sorrento, and also took the 2010 Pines side to a GF (lost to Seaford) and coached Tooradin at Senior level in 2014 so brings vast experience and knowledge with him for the 2019 Reserves outfit. Good luck Andy and great to have you back in the fold!

With Joey taking the role as Senior Assistant Coach this left a vacancy in the Under 19s which has been filled by Dave Birtles.
Dave is a Seaford man through and through, having played his entire Junior career at the club in the 70s & 80s and around 200 Senior/Reserves games, including Grand Final appearances in 97/98. He is a Life Member of the junior club, awarded for coaching his boys’ sides from Under 9s in 2008 all the way through to under 16s in 2016, with a lot of these kids currently in the 19s. He has also been involved in coaching at Interleague level & St Kilda’s next generation and won the South Eastern region coach of the Year in 2011. We are looking forward to seeing what the Under 19s can produce in 2019 having showed a great deal of improvement throughout Season 2018. Good luck to Dave and all of the young Under 19s men in Season 2019.
